Closing Remarks

This was a nice little course here.  It definitely got my feet wet in a variety of different corners of the Internet.  We delved into the roots of social media and the dot-com bubble, what makes an online service successful in its relationship with the consumer, the possible future of personal devices, plus a whole lot more.  We saw how many principals of business and communication translate to the online world as well as how the web introduces new behaviors in humans.

I feel that the material covered in this course surely opened my eyes a bit to the world around me and helped to analyze and break down why some things are the way they are in the world.

I can't really think of anything specific that I wanted to cover that was not, or what could have made this course's material better.  I am still slightly confused by the groupings of discussion groups... if I'm getting it right, there were a good amount of students taking the course and we were divided into small discussion groups of 4 or so.  While I like the concept of splitting up the students into manageable group sizes, I feel that the small group size may have been a little too small for my liking.  I feel like there were only two or three other people presenting ideas that we had to choose from to respond to on the discussion board.  I think there might be more of an active dialogue with more members in each group; perhaps 6 or 8 total members would be a good size. Just a thought.

This is the first online class I have taken, and while it might be right for some people, I think that traditional classroom time works better with my habits and workflow.  Everybody's different... I'm glad I tried out an online class, but I think it might just not be for me.  I'd say the course was no doubt a good experience though.  Well done... it's been a pleasure.

  2. Hi Samuel,

I am glad that this class helped you learn different aspects of social media and marketing, I also appreciate your effort and input to this class.

And, yes, you are right, there are 4 groups in this class, each group has 4-5 students. The reason why I divided the whole class into different groups was that I wanted to encourage deep and meaningful discussion in small groups. But I think you made a great point that if I could put more members into a group, it would be better, so you all can share more thoughts and interact with more fellows. Thank you for suggestion!

Online class is a little bit different from a traditional one, because you will need to make sure you remember the deadline correctly, and you clear about where to find the materials/readings/assignment, and where to post your responses and how to interact with other folks, all the communication is based on written materials. Compared to a traditional class, online class requires students devote more time into self-studying/organizing the class materials. But I am so glad you thought it was a good experience. Thank you for the great summer.

    Best,
    Shanshan
